Essay Three Introductory Overview

Our blog centers on what constitutes the taboo in different cultures. More specifically, how directors in various countries around the world use what is considered to be taboo in their country of origin to drive forward their plots. The inclusion of these various taboos not only shock the audience but allow the films to take place in an almost surreal environment. Where if these taboos were to be enacted in the actual country they would be frowned upon and ostracized; in the films they are a source of intrigue, act as a plot catalyst and sometimes even serve as comedic relief. One thing is for certain in all countries though, taboos are alive and well and our group is here to point them out in relation to their nations of orgin. Our film starts as a parody of the Indian film Bunty Aur Babli, but instead of the young lovers running off to pull pranks the pranks are pulled on them as they run off. These pranks take the form of taboos across the world, and they are always on the losing end of them. Hilarity ensues.
